Cancarb Continues Unit 6 Expansion for Increased Thermax® Production

Cancarb Limited is making continued progress on the construction of a sixth thermal carbon black unit at its facility in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, which is expected to be completed by mid-December 2020.

Cancarb Limited, a subsidiary of Tokai Carbon Co. Ltd., is the global leader in the production and marketing of thermal carbon black, which is added to thermoplastics and can contribute color, opacity, electrical resistivity, and protection from ultra-violet degradation.

Cancarb Limited currently has five thermal carbon black units with a total capacity of 45,000 metric tons (100 million pounds). The sixth unit will add 9,000 metric tons (20 million pounds) of capacity and will produce Cancarb’s signature grades of Thermax® medium thermal carbon black, which is manufactured under strictly controlled conditions from high quality, commercial-grade natural gas.

What This Means for You

The processes and equipment in Unit 6 will be the same as in other units, but RDAbbott understands that some customers may require samples of materials that are produced in this new unit.

Please contact us if this is a requirement, or to learn more about the various grades of Thermax® thermal carbon black that we can supply. Samples from Unit 6 are expected to be available in December.
