Dow Launches SILASTIC™ Selective Adhesion LSRs

Dow has launched a new series of selective adhesion (SA) liquid silicone rubber (LSR) products for the mobility and transportation industry. SILASTIC™ SA 994X LSRs are primer-less, self-adhesive, and available in standard and self-lubricating versions with a one-to-one mix ratio for two-component injection molding with thermoplastic substrates. These new LSR materials were specifically developed to target adhesion to polybutylene terephthalates (PBT) and polyamides (PA).

Applications for these new materials include connector seals, battery vent gaskets, and radiator gasket seals for electric and hybrid vehicles. SILASTIC™ SA 994X LSRs can also be used as environmental protection seals for lidar and radar housings in autonomous vehicles.

This new series of Dow LSRs offers numerous benefits to automotive manufacturers, including:

  • Durable adhesion under heat and humidity
  • Instant development of full bond strength
  • 12-month shelf-life stability
  • Robust and instant adhesion to various engineering plastics and metal substrates throughout the products’ shelf life, without the need for further heat treatment(s)

SILASTIC™ SA 994X LSRs are available in standard (SA 9940) and 2% oil-bleed (SA 9942) versions in 30, 40, and 50 durometers. All six of these products are sold as pail kits and drum kits.
