Hallstar is promoting renewable and readily available alternatives to trimellitate esters, chemical compounds that are used as plasticizers in rubber and PVC. Formulators who use these offsets can match the performance of synthetic trimellitate esters while strengthening their supply chains, reducing regulatory pressures, and advancing their environmental sustainability goals.

Hallstar has finalized its purchase of LANXESS’ ester manufacturing facility in Greensboro, North Carolina. The acquisition expands the Chicago-based company’s manufacturing capacity, product portfolio, and employee roster. As part of the acquisition, Hallstar is gaining new product lines of brominated flame retardants and phthalate-free plasticizers, including benzoate and citrate esters.

Hallstar has published a technical paper about the function and selection of ester plasticizers, substances that are incorporated into a plastic or elastomer to increase its flexibility, workability or distensibility.
