Millathane® 26 for Food Contact and Other Applications

TSE Industries has introduced Millathane® 26, a polyether-based millable polyurethane for food contact and other applications. This FDA compliant material meets 21 CFR 177.2600 requirements for repeated contact with wet and dry food. It combines superior durability with reliable performance and is available in both virgin bales and pre-milled sheets.

Material Specifications and Processing Guidelines

Among its advantages, Millathane® 26 offers outstanding abrasion resistance, high tensile strength, good heat and compression set resistance, and good oil resistance. It also demonstrates excellent resistance to moisture and water degradation and is more forgiving in autoclave or steam processes than polyester materials.

As a downloadable technical bulletin from TSE Industries explains, Millathane® 26 can be processed on conventional rubber equipment and is suitable for compression, transfer, and injection molding. Compounders can add reinforcing fillers, plasticizers, and processing aids. This millable polyurethane supports the following curing systems:

  • Peroxide curing is required for FDA-compliant applications and produces vulcanizates with durometers ranging from 45 to 99 Shore A.
  • Isocyanate curing is used in non-food applications that require high mechanical strength and extreme hardness up to 65 Shore D.
Applications and Additional Information

Because of its hydrolytic stability, strength, and regulatory compliance, Millathane® 26 is used for both food-contact and general industrial parts.

  • Food-contact applications include hose inner liners, gaskets and seals, conveyor belting, and drive and feed rollers.
  • Industrial and technical applications include heavy-duty industrial rollers, high-durability molded rubber goods, and calendered and press-cured sheet goods.
