Webinar Recording: “Breaking Barriers in Liquid Silicone Rubber: The Future of Custom LSR Compounding”

On Thursday, September 4, 2025, RDAbbott hosted a webinar titled “Breaking Barriers in Liquid Silicone Rubber: The Future of Custom LSR Compounding.”

In this 45-minute presentation, Brian Swanton, Director of Process Engineering for NovationSi, explains how customized LSRs can be tailored at the formulation level before injection molding begins. NovationSi, RDAbbott’s manufacturing subsidiary, is a leader in custom silicone compounding.

This recording is part of RDAbbott’s 2025 Webinar Series which provides technical insights, materials updates, and processing recommendations from our supplier partners.

Why You Should Watch and Listen

For decades, customizing small-volume LSR was limited to off-the-shelf durometers and third streaming during injection molding. Today, it’s possible to tailor custom LSRs at the formulation level. This unlocks possibilities for enhanced physical properties, improved processability, and performance-specific tuning.

During this free recording, you’ll learn about the benefits and trade-offs of third streaming vs. pre-compounded solutions. You’ll also learn about designing custom LSR formulations to meet unique application demands and navigating the customization process, such as when to modify one vs. both components of a two-part system.

About the Presenter

Brian Swanton is the Director of Process Engineering for NovationSi, bringing over 30 years of experience in silicone materials and process engineering. A graduate of Michigan Technological University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Brian has held key technical roles at industry leaders such as Dow (formerly Dow Corning) and DuPont. His career highlights include developing and scaling up more than 40 products and earning multiple patents for his innovations. Brian’s deep expertise spans product development, commercialization, and quality assurance for both LSR and high consistency rubber (HCR) applications. At NovationSi, he applies this extensive knowledge to lead process engineering efforts and support the creation of highly customized elastomer solutions.
