RDAbbott, NovationSi, and Fitebac Dental Team Up to Enhance Antimicrobial Protection for Silicone Medical and Dental Devices
November 29, 2021

RDAbbott and NovationSi are collaborating with FiteBac Dental, a manufacturer of antimicrobial compounds and additives for dentistry using their patented antimicrobial molecular technology, to provide broad-spectrum antimicrobial protection in silicone and synthetic elastomers. Together, these companies are synergizing the effectiveness of FiteBac’s non-leaching, durable and persistent bactericidal, fungicidal, and virucidal technology in synthetic and silicone polymer systems for use in revolutionary medical and dental devices.
RDAbbott and NovationSi have deep technical and manufacturing expertise with synthetic and silicone rubber materials, which include dispersions that are used in dental and medical devices. Using custom antimicrobial additives, liquid silicone rubber (LSR) and high consistency rubber (HCR) can be modified to reduce microbial growth on the surfaces of cured elastomers. FiteBac’s team of over thirty scientists and dental researchers have received multiple patents for antimicrobial molecules and have successfully launched multiple FDA-cleared antimicrobial dental devices.
“By combining FiteBac’s revolutionary antimicrobial technology with the elastomer expertise of RDAbbott and NovationSi, FiteBac Dental is poised to bring more life-changing antimicrobial products to market in short order,” said Dr. Kirk Kimmerling, FiteBac’s founder.
“Rubber technologists and materials scientists from RDAbbott and NovationSi have discovered proprietary ways to use FiteBac Technology to efficiently enhance the antimicrobial properties of silicone elastomers,” explained Rick Ziebell, Vice President of Technology at RDAbbott. “Employing FiteBac in this manner has been shown to decrease biofilm formation on the surface of a cured silicone elastomer and can enhance silicone’s use as a medical device.”
RDAbbott and NovationSi have experience in customizing functional elastomer properties with revolutionary additives dispersion technologies. Under its NovaSperse® brand, NovationSi will sell custom third-stream additives for LSR with FiteBac’s patented antimicrobial compounds incorporated. Under its PURmix® brand, the company will sell custom dispersions for HCR that contain FiteBac’s patented antimicrobial compounds. These products will be distributed by RDAbbott.
