Webinar Recording: “SILASTIC™ Silicone Rubber: Forming the Future of Electric Vehicles”
December 5, 2024
On Thursday, December 5, 2024, RDAbbott hosted a webinar titled “SILASTIC™ Silicone Rubber: Forming the Future of Electric Vehicles.”
In this 50-minute presentation, Jake Steinbrecher, Technical Service & Development Scientist at Dow, highlighted silicone rubber’s material compatibility, safety, and performance advantages in (Electric Vehicle) EV applications, such as cables, busbars, battery components, and automotive lighting.
This recording is part of RDAbbott’s 2024 Webinar Series which provides technical insights, materials updates, and processing recommendations from our supplier partners.
Why You Should Watch and Listen
As growth in the EV industry accelerates toward a sustainable future, engineers need to meet multiple challenges. Silicone rubber is compatible with a wide range of materials used in EV manufacturing and combines thermal and electrical safety with proven performance.
For example, silicone’s exceptional thermal stability and dielectric properties make this elastomer ideal for use in high voltage (HV) systems. Applications include cables and busbars, each of which poses different challenges.
Silicone’s high-temperature resistance supports normal EV use and is especially important during and after a potential thermal event. As battery fire protection materials, silicones withstand many charge/discharge cycles and undergo ceramification instead of combustion above 300°C.
Check out this on-demand resoure to discover how silicone rubber is driving advancements in safety, compatibility, and performance, and paving the way for a more reliable and efficient future in transportation.
