Cancarb Earns Platinum Sustainability Rating from EcoVadis
July 14, 2023
For the second time in three years, Cancarb Limited has received the highest possible sustainability rating from EcoVadis, a global provider of corporate and environmental scorecards. Cancarb’s Platinum Sustainability Rating indicates that the Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, company is in the top 1% of all rated suppliers. Today, there are over 100,000 suppliers rated by EcoVadis.
Cancarb makes Thermax® medium thermal carbon black, a functional filler that can improve dispersion, decrease mixing energy, and extend the compound without sacrificing important physical properties. Last year, Cancarb released a new product, Thermax® N990CG, with low levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), substances listed as carcinogens. Previously, Cancarb opened its sixth production unit, which increased their total capacity for producing Thermax® brand carbon black products to 54,000 MT per year.
Jason Sweeney, Cancarb’s Product Stewardship & HSE Compliance Manager, described Cancarb’s most recent Platinum Sustainability as “rewarding” and noted how the areas of improvement in EcoVadis’ reporting “are invaluable in helping Cancarb set a path forward for our future.” Cancarb Limited, a subsidiary of Japan’s Tokai Carbon Co. Ltd., is also celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
