Our Technical Presentation: Conductive Silicone Technology

RDAbbott’s Steve Griffin will discuss Conductive Silicone Technology during the Technical Presentations that begin at 4:30 PM. A summary of his technical presentation and bio appears below. Information about additional presentations and presenters will be published when available.

Presentation Overview

Silicone rubber is widely recognized for its exceptional insulating properties—but with the right material technologies, it can also become an excellent conductor. This presentation will explore how the electrical characteristics of silicone elastomers can be fundamentally altered using conductive fillers, enabling new solutions for industries requiring conductivity ranges from static-dissipative up to and including electrostatic dissipation (ESD), and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding.

Attendees will gain insights into:

  • The basics of conductivity and resistivity in silicone elastomers, including key measurement methods and materials science considerations.
  • The importance of filler selection, aspect ratios, and their effects on electrical performance and elastomeric properties.
  • An overview of PURmix® conductive silicone technologies available from NovationSi, including electrically transmissive, static-dissipative, and EMI-shielding silicone compounds.
  • Real-world application examples across medical devices, industrial electronics, transportation, energy storage, and consumer goods.

This session will provide practical knowledge for engineers and designers looking to leverage conductive silicone technologies for enhanced product performance and market differentiation.

Presenter’s Bio

Steve Griffin is the Director of Business Development at RDAbbott, where he is responsible for driving the development and sales of both new and existing products. With more than 45 years of experience in the chemical industry, Steve brings a deep knowledge of rubber chemicals, intermediates, and specialty additives.

He has been with RDAbbott for over eight years. Prior to that, he spent 12.5 years at LANXESS where he focused on selling rubber chemicals and benzene-derived intermediates. Before joining LANXESS, Steve dedicated 18.5 years to The C.P. Hall Company (now Hallstar), managing sales of ester plasticizers, magnesia, and dry mix products throughout North and South America.

Steve has also been an active contributor to the polymer industry. He has held officer roles in the Twin Cities Rubber Group, progressing through all leadership positions, and served as Golf Chairman for the Wisconsin Rubber Group prior to its merger with the Chicago Rubber Group. Additionally, he served for many years as Member Services Manager for the Polyurethane Manufacturers Association (PMA).
