Webinar Recording: “Effect of Thermax® N990 on EPDM Electrical Percolation Threshold”

RDAbbott recently hosted a webinar titled “Effect of Thermax® N990 on EPDM Electrical Percolation Threshold.” In this 47-minute presentation, Ed Norton, the Technical Service Manager for Cancarb Limited, explains why Thermax® N990, the largest particle size, lowest structure thermal carbon black on the market, is essential to reaching desired electrical resistivity values in various EPDM compounds.

This presentation was livestreamed on June 7, 2023, and is part of RDAbbott’s 2023 Webinar Series, which provides technical insights, material updates, and processing recommendations from our supplier partners.

Why You Should Watch and Listen

Electrical resistivity is an important property for various EPDM applications, such as wire and cable, battery and fuel cell gaskets, and automotive profiles. To achieve the specified electrical resistivity values in these applications, it is necessary to replace smaller particle size furnace blacks with mineral fillers and/or larger particle size carbon blacks.

In this webinar recording, you’ll hear the results of Cancarb’s technical study that compared blends of hard clay, Thermax® N990, and N550, and evaluated how the size, structure, and surface chemistry of these filler systems impact the insulative and conductive behaviors of the EPDM compounds. The effects of carbon black loading on volume resistivity, viscosity, and physical properties were also measured in this study.
