RDAbbott to Instruct at Silicone Elastomers and Fabrication Course

RDAbbott will share its rubber industry knowledge at Silicone Elastomers Technology and Fabrication, an in-person course from M.R. Toub Training from January 31 to February 3, 2023. Rick Ziebell, RDAbbott’s Technical Fellow and Vice President of Technology, will be an instructor for this university-accredited course, which will provide participants with 3.2 continuing education credits from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

Ziebell has more than 35 years of rubber industry experience and has worked for both raw material suppliers and fabricators. He holds a degree in Chemical Engineering and Materials Engineering from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and received advanced training in materials science and application studies in silicone technology from Dow Corning (now Dow). Ziebell has earned compositional patents in silicone technology and is a published author of over 50 technical papers and presentations.

The Silicone Elastomers Technology and Fabrication course is recommended for both entry-level and experienced personnel. From material selection and design for manufacturing (DFM) to processing and troubleshooting, this four-day course covers the entire sequence of designing and fabricating with silicone elastomers. One, entirely hands-on, day will be spent at M.R. Mold & Engineering at the molding machines with the instructors demonstrating all that was presented in the classroom environment. Areas of emphasis include liquid injection molding (LIM) for liquid silicone rubber (LSR) and extrusion and calendering for high consistency rubber (HCR).

Along with RDAbbott’s Ziebell, the course instructors are Bob Pelletier, Operations Manager for ELMET North America, Inc.; John Timmerman, CEO for Poly-Nova Technologies; Stefan Scheibner, Application Technician for ARBURG, Inc.; Rick Finnie, President of M.R. Mold & Engineering; Robert Jovingo, LSR Process Engineer for ShinEtsu Silicones NA; and Suhas Kulkarni, President for FIMMTECH.

The course locations are at the Kellogg West Conference Center and Hotel in Pomona, California, and M.R. Mold & Engineering, in nearby Brea, California. The course runs from 8 AM to 5 PM each day. For current pricing and register links, visit this web page.
